6 Days and Counting
Counting today it is 6 days until my best friend, Kristin leaves for Ethiopia.
She’ll be gone 8 months to 1 year and I will miss her dearly.
We had our last breakfast date this morning. It was sad.

1. ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT TO SIGN UP FOR THE SWAP!! So, if you haven’t signed up yet there is still time. It will be a lot of fun. I know that I am already having fun putting together the package for my unknown partner.
2. Last night there was a huge thunder and lightening storm. I found myself wishing that I was in Georgia sitting in our old garage at the top of the hill watching the storm. I love the smell of the rain and the atmosphere that the storm creates.
3. The former Misty Jenkins, now Misty Byrd has had her baby at the end of last week. She’s perfect. Congratulations Jenkins/Byrds!! (I refer to her as the Baby Byrd– kindof creates a strange image in your head)
4. I’m in the process of putting together a smashing Bridal Shower present for one Sarah Case. The shower’s on May 12th but I’m getting myself ahead of the game.
5. Part 1 of 2 Graduation ceremonies for Daniel is also on the 12th. If my calculations are correct, Dan only has about 6 weeks left of his College Experience.
6. Next Monday, Dan has another interview with World Vision. This time it’s with the Africa Team. How exciting!
7. Tonight Dan and I are meeting Peter for dinner at Red Robin… I’m already contemplating what burger I want to order… And I’m already considering putting a limit on my bottomless baskets of french fries.
My best friend (besides Daniel) Kristin is leaving for Ethiopia in like 2 weeks. Poor Kristin was telling me two weeks ago that she didn’t have any camera to take with her. I thought to myself:
Self: Kim, you cannot let your best friend leave for Ethiopia for 8 months to a year without the ability to take pictures.
Kim: But Self! What am I supposed to do about it? She wants this Nikon that is like $1700! I want something like that too! But I’ll never be able to afford it.
Self: Kim, I know you can’t buy her the Nikon, but I’m sure there’s SOMETHING you can do about this situation.
Kim: You’re probably right, I just have to figure out what I can do. Poor Kris..
Well I was able to figure something out, with the help of two minds put together. This morning I surprised Kristin with a digital camera and a huge memory card. It was such a wonderful feeling that overwhelmed me when she was screaming and hugging me. I am just so glad that I was able to do something so great for a friend that has done so much for me since the very first day that I met her.
Kristin, I am going to miss you so much.
***This experience also taught me that I am extremely selfish with my money and that there is so much more we all can do if we were only willing to say “Yes” to opportunities. Kristin’s face and hugs were totally worth it.
Alright, it took a lot of thinking but I’ve finally settled on a SWAP!! But I don’t have a cute and clever name for it… So anyone can help name it with me.
The Swap:
*Recipes for a coordinated themed meal. (Appetizer/Salad, Entree, Side Dishes, Desert and Drink) A few examples of the themes: Cowboy Dinner, Moroccan Paradise, Dinner at Buckingham Palace, Retro Diner ect… Have fun with it! All recipes should be connected to the theme.
*A apron that matches the theme of the meal. Apron can be hand-made or store-bought. Again have fun with it. The apron can be as simple or as elaborate and impractical as you wish.
*Optional– Include a mix-cd with fun cooking/dancing music to have your partner listen to while cooking your themed meal. The tunes could even relate to the theme!!
*After the swap, I would love to see pictures of the meal that is made from the recipes and you cooking/dancing in your fancy apron! So take pictures and post!!
Please email me kimberly_schreiman at yahoo dot com by Thursday March 29th!! I haven’t picked out a date that swap packages should be in the mail yet– when you email me I will let you know of the mail deadline. Then a day or too after the sign-up deadline, I will let you know of your swap partner.
Participate!! It shall be fun!! And who doesn’t like food and nifty aprons!
Dan the Man has tagged me. Who would have every guess that he picked me!
There are so many weird things about me that it was hard to choose just 6. But I think I’ve got a nice assortment that will portray my ‘weirdness’ well.
1. I am 19 years old and I share a bedroom with my mother. Our beds are like 6 inches apart from eachother.
2. The only reason I ever learned how to get through a meal using chopsticks was so that I would continue getting my suishi fix for free. (I eat ridiculus amounts of suishi, especially the Ell!!! Yummm) Thanks Uncle Al!!
3. My uncle never calls me by my real name. Instead he chooses to call me “Phoebe” in reference to “Friends.” Even to the point where I am required to sing “Smelly Cat.” I also share my birthday with this uncle.
4. My aunt and I have the exact same initials. K.A.S.
5. I have moved more times in my life than the years that I have been alive. And this is only counting the times that my mom has moved.
6. One Halloween the only thing that I wanted to dress up as was a Pizza Delivery Boy. I still get extremely giddy when little kids come to the door, even sad when no one is there. I wait anxiously and look out the window.
